Burnett Man Convicted Of Possessing Child Pornography

(Burnett) A Burnett man was found guilty Monday of having explicit images of minors. Jeffrey Schaum entered a guilty plea to three felony counts of Possession of Child Pornography. An additional seven charges of Child Pornography were dismissed but read into the record. In March, an agent with the Department of Justice observed an IP address tied to Schaum trying to access child pornography files. The following month, authorities executed a search warrant at Schaum’s residence and interviewed him at his place of work. Schaum said he would look for illegal images using the peer-to-peer platform Freenet. The 54-year-old said he was worried about the police finding out and was under the impression of Freenet anonymity. Each charge carries a maximum 25-year prison sentence. A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered and Schaum is due back in court on November 22.
