Boston Stores Profits Down

10/7/11 – Sales were down last month for the company which owns Boston Store, Younkers, and Elder-Beerman. Bon-Ton Stores reports a 3.6% sales drop at stores open for at least a year. The company blamed the decline on weak sales for furniture, intimate apparel, and women’s sports-wear. It also blamed higher clothing prices caused by increases from wholesalers. For the five weeks ending last Sunday, Bon-Ton said its total revenues dropped just over 4% to around $287-million dollars. Bon-Ton has headquarters in Milwaukee and York Pennsylvania, with a total of 275 stores, including one in Beaver Dam.
