(Beaver Dam) State Representative Mark Born says he hopes a provision that would increase grant funding for local road projects stays in the budget. The Local Roads Improvement Program helps municipalities with deteriorating conditions of local roadways. Born, who sits on the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee, explained that the program is currently funded at around $33-million dollars but an additional $90-million would be directed to municipal roads. The Beaver Dam Republican says the grant requires a 50-50 split but that would change to a 90-10 split. During a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Born told us that he advised city officials in Beaver Dam to have projects shovel-ready for the highly-competitive grant. Born says if the program is successful there could be plans to expand it in the future.
