Bernard M. “Ben” Meighan, age 74, died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at his home in Beaver Dam
Visitation will be at Praise Assembly of God Church (119 W. Maple Ave.) in Beaver Dam on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Funeral services will follow at church on Friday at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Randy Carey officiating. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall at church immediately after the service.
Bernard Michael Meighan was born on May 22, 1950 in New Hampton, Iowa to Merle and Helen (Dieterich) Meighan. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo, Iowa in 1968. At the age of 18, he went to work on the railroad. Ben started as a member of a railroad gang and was promoted to foreman within 6 months. He worked his way up through the years, retiring from Wisconsin Southern Railroad in 2013 as Superintendent of Maintenance of Way. In retirement, he was grateful to have more time to dedicate to his family. Ben was a jack-of-all-trades and loved to supervise projects. He had a unique sense of humor and fancied himself to be very wise. Ben was an avid fisherman and hunter and he was a loyal fan of the Green Bay Packers. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a generous man and a kind and loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend.
Survivors include his wife, Jackey Meighan of Beaver Dam; his daughters, Tina (Treg) Scharf, Angela Fedenko, and Shari Pollock; a son-in-law, Tom McCormack; 14 grandchildren, Holly Jo, Bethany, Alyshia, Cory, Rachel, Tommy, Meghan, Kali-Marie, Haddie, Kayla, Kail, Teegen, Kristalyn, and Andrew; 11 great grandchildren, Charlotte, Lukah, Nova, Mazikeen, Rory, Havik, Lykos, Ember, Penelope, Bellamy, and Maisie; nine brothers and sisters, Peggy (Mark) Nelsen, Mary (Bob) Day, Pat (Lori) Meighan, Mike (Agnes) Meighan, Duane (Birgit) Meighan, Kathy (Mike) Russell, Carol (John) Slevin, Bobbie (Mike) Melber, and Jamie McCallie; 3 brothers-in-law, Roger Stickley, John (Kathy) Greene, and Jim Greene; a sister-in-law, Anna Wagner; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Bob Hild and Merle Meighan; his daughter, Kathy McCormack; two great grandchildren, Presley and Carson Thomas; and a sister, Doris Stickley.
