(Beaver Dam) Beekeeping is now allowed in the city of Beaver Dam. Beekeepers will need to pay a $50 annual application fee for a permit. Applicants must provide proof of beekeeping education from a local technical college, university or beekeeping association and furnish the city with a diagram of the location of the hive. Each parcel can have up to two hives and they must be in kept the backyard of a single or two-family residence with proper signage posted. The ordinance was approved by the city council last Monday with one dissenting vote. There were concerns raised about the potential danger to city residents who are allergic to bees. Alderwoman Jaclyn Shelton told the council that she is allergic to bees but still supports the ordinance.
