The Beaver Dam High School football team punched their ticket to the playoffs with a 37-7 win to spoil Watertown’s Homecoming on Friday night in the 102nd meeting between the two teams.
The Goslings took the opening kickoff and drove 76 yards on 9 players, taking a 7-0 lead on a 13-yard Malik Mitchell touchdown run. The Golden Beavers countered with a 17-play, 67-yard drive that salted 7:13 off the clock. That was capped by a one-yard Josiah Barnes TD run. The team’s played to a stalemate, until Parker Blank banged home a 29-yard field goal with :15 left in the 2nd quarter to take a 10-7 lead into the locker room.
Beaver Dam outscored the Goslings 27-0 in the 2nd half. Out of the locker room, BDHS capped a 17-play, 68-yard drive with a two-yard Eli Bryant TD run to go up 17-7. Bryant then hit Jeff Freund on a 12-yard pass in the left corner of the end zone to push their lead to 24-7 with 3:50 left in the 3rd. The cushion ballooned to 30-7 when Colton Schultz blocked a punt, setting up a 13-yard TD run by Broc Mullenbach at the 1:00 mark of the 3rd quarter. With 5:30 left in the 4th Freund took a shuffle pass from Bryant around the right side for a 15-yard score to finish off the scoring.
Barnes finished the day with 200 yards rushing on 30 carries and two TDs. Mullenbach ended up with 42 yards rushing and a pair of TDs. Bryant ran for 43 yards and a score.
Through the air, Bryant completed 9 of 17 passes for 137 yards and two TDs. Jeff Freund caught five of those passes for 86 yards and two TDS.
Watertown QB Davis Cashin threw for 44 yards and ran for 42. Malik Mitchell had 70 yards and a TD on 11 carries.
The Golden Beavers outgained the Goslings 451-157. That included 305 yards rushing.
The Beavers (6-1, 3-0) host Kewaskum next Friday while Watertown (2-5, 1-2) travels to Port Washington.
