Beavers Blank Metro-Lynx In Sectional Semifinal

The Beaver Dam High School girls hockey team advanced to the WIAA Sectional Final with a 6-0 win over the Metro-Lynx at the Family Center in front of a standing room only crowd Tuesday night.

The Golden Beavers jumped out to the early lead as freshman Addie Smedema hammered home a rebound at 1:48 to put the home team up 1-0. Emersen Damon and Lil Mansueto tallied assists.  At 6:10 of the first Freshman Brenna Rhodes scored her state leading sixth short-handed goal with the assist going to Addy Damon.   Rhodes put Beaver Dam up 3-0 in the 1st with an even strength goal at 8:19 with Addy Damon and Addy Mylrea getting credit for assists.    The Metro-Lynx outshot BDHS 23-8 in the first period but trailed 3-0 after 17 minutes.

Beaver Dam iced the game with three more goals in the 2nd period. At 3:11, Emersen Damon tipped in a shot off the stick Addie Hoekstra.  At 6:35 Mansueto scored off a pass from Rhodes with Emersen Damon getting the 2nd assist.   Freshman Lena Ruckert put the game away, beating Buzzell to the far side post at 7:00 for her first goal of the season.  Olivia Bates and Della Baker each were awarded assists on the play.

Emily Smedema turned away all 38 Metro-Lynx shots, including a penalty shot to earn her 6th shutout of the season.   Addy Buzzell turned back 21 Golden Beaver shots.

Beaver Dam (19-6) will travel to Janesville on Friday night for a Sectional Final matchup with Cap City.  The winner will advance to the WIAA State Girls Hockey Tournament in Madison.   You can watch that game on DailyDodge TV and hear it on 1430 ESPN Beaver Dam.
