Beaver Dam High School senior Maty Wilke was recently named the ESPN Madison/UW Credit Union Student Athlete of the Week.

Prep sports: basketball, softball, golf.
Sports highlights: Maty is a three-time letter winner and three-year starter as a point guard and shooting guard for the Golden Beavers. A two-time unanimous Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 2 all-state selection, Wilke helped lead Beaver Dam to its last two Division 2 state titles, which are part of the Golden Beavers’ three-peat, and a berth in the 2020 state semifinals. They were two games away from becoming the first girls program to ever win four consecutive WIAA state titles when the season was halted by the COVID-19 outbreak.
She earned Associated Press All-State first-team honors as a junior, second-team honors as a sophomore and honorable mention recognition as a freshman. A three-time unanimous All-Badger North Conference first-team selection, she was named the league’s Player of the Year as a junior when she averaged 16.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 3.6 steals per game. She will enter her senior season with 1.087 career points.
Beaver Dam has had a 75-6 record in Wilke’s first three seasons, with five of those losses coming to out-of-state powerhouses. The only in-state loss was to La Crosse Aquinas last season. Wilke, who received her first scholarship offer from North Dakota during the summer before her eighth grade year, is ranked No. 76 nationally by ESPNW’s HoopGurlz.
She has also earned varsity letters in golf and softball. She earned All-Badger North Conference second-team honors in softball as a freshman playing first base.
Pre-game ritual or superstition: Eat Subway, sleep on the bus, chew mint gum.
Cumulative GPA: 3.9.
Favorite subject/class: Psychology.

I got my start in sports: playing basketball when I was four years old.

My most memorable moments in sports: Winning state in ‘Positively Hoops’ and winning back-to-back state titles my freshman and sophomore year in high school.
I like about high school sports: being able to play with my friends, playing in front of friends and family, having a packed gym and traveling.
I enjoy playing basketball because: I meet new people and create friendships that last a lifetime, get the chance to travel around the state and country, and I love everything about basketball.
My role models are: My brother, Sam Wilke, and Lyndsey Robson.

This and that: Member of National Honor Society and High Honor Roll … volunteer work includes assisting at youth basketball camps and open gyms, local Nursing home and Food Pantry … teaches basketball to kids … played AAU basketball with the North Tartans (Minn.).
Hobbies: Being around friends and family, traveling, sleeping, watching movies.
Post-high school plans: Attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison on a basketball scholarship and study Psychology.
