Beaver Dam Woman Seriously Injured While Driving Wrong Way Drunk

(Beaver Dam) Authorities say a Beaver Dam woman was drunk when she was seriously injured after driving the wrong way on State Highway 16 in Columbia County. The crash occurred around 5pm Saturday near New Haven Road in the Town of Newport.

Sheriff Roger Brandner says witnesses reported that the 25-year-old’s car was westbound on Highway 16 when she struck an eastbound minivan. The Beaver Dam woman sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. She was cited for first offense Operating While Intoxicated.

The 23-year-old Norwalk, Wisconsin woman in the minivan sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The sheriff says that the road conditions had begun to transition from rain and sleet to snow at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office.

Columbia County was assisted at the scene by the Wisconsin Dells Police Department, Kilbourn Fire Department, Lake Delton/Dells EMS and Blystones Towing.
