The Beaver Dam Wildfire youth girls hockey team won their 2nd straight Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association 14U Class B Girls State Championship on Sunday with a 3-2 win over the Chippewa/ECA Mustangs at the Family Center in Beaver Dam.
Addy Mylrea gave the Wildfire a 1-0 lead at 6:13 of the 1st when she lit the lamp with an assist going to Brenna Rhodes. Less than two minutes later the Mustangs pulled even with a power play goal by Olivia Herr. At 6:33 of the 2nd period, the Wildfire jumped back on top when Lilian Mansueto scored an unassisted goal. That lead held up until mid-way through the third period when the Mustangs tied the score at 2-2 with a power play goal by Aubriella Wolle. At 10:10 of the final period, Addie Smedema the tie with what proved to be the game winner. Maggie Laatsch assisted on the winning goal.
The Wildfire’s Dot Baker stopped 14 of the 16 shots she saw to earn the win. Amelia Beck-Christiansen stopped 21 of the 24 shots faced for the Mustangs.
Beaver Dam advanced to the state championship with a 9-1 win over Sauk Prairie and an 8-1 Quarterfinal win over Washington County and a 9-1 Semifinal victory over Washington County on Saturday.
