(Beaver Dam) With the Veterans Day holiday just around the corner, the Beaver Dam VFW Post 1163 is reminding residents that their annual holiday food drive is already underway. On a recent WBEV’s community comment, Paul Lauth with the VFW, said their goal is to provide a box of food for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Lauth added that last year with the COVID pandemic they were unable to provide the boxes of food, instead opting to purchase gift cards from Piggly Wiggly.
Lauth says veterans can call him, or their local VFW if they need assistance. He adds that often veterans are (quote) “too proud” to ask for help, so they rely on their family, their neighbors, or the county services officer to let them know of veterans in need.
Those looking to donate can also reach out to the local VFW or Lauth, who says they will accept both monetary donations as well as nonperishable food items. Examples include, cereal, instant oatmeal, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, canned vegetables and soups, canned tuna or chicken, crackers, or anything else nonperishable that can sustain a veteran and their family for a meal.
Those looking to donate or who know a Veteran in need of assistance can call Paul Lauth at 920-763-3577 or visit the VFW Post 1163 page on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/vfwpost1163/
