Beaver Dam Softball Ready For State Tournament

The Beaver Dam High School softball team heads to the Green Bay area on Sunday night as they get ready for the WIAA Division One State Quarterfinal against Sun Prairie on Monday morning at 8am on 1430 WBEV.

Beaver Dam is the #7 seed in the eight team event while Sun Prairie was tabbed the #2 seed.

The Golden Beavers (18-3) shared the Badger North Conference championship with Mount Horeb and used timely hitting, pitching and defense to earn their first trip to the WIAA State Softball Tournament since 2004.  BDHS won the Regional Championship with an 8-1 win over Watertown, then edged Slinger 5-4 in 8 innings before slipping by Oshkosh West 3-1 in the Sectional Final.

Sun Prairie (21-3) has outscored their opponents 218-39 this season and shared the Big Eight Conference crown with Verona.  The Cardinals disposed of Madison Memorial 10-0 in their Regional Championship Game, then walked off Verona 3-2 in eight innings to advance to the Sectional Final.  The Cardinals blew by Holeman 15-0 in 3-innings in the Sectional Final to earn their 3rd straight trip to state.   In 2019 Sun Prairie fell in the D1 State Championship Game to Oshkosh North and won the state title in 2018.  The 2020 season was cancelled because of COVID-19.

The winner of Monday’s Quarterfinal will face either #3 Sussex Hamilton or #6 Chippewa Falls at 2pm later in the day at UW-Green Bay in a State Semifinal.  The WIAA Division One State Championship Game is set for 3pm on Wednesday at UW-Green Bay.

The public is invited to a sendoff for the team as they leave for Green Bay on Sunday night at 6pm.  The public is encouraged to line the school district property side of McKinley and Gould Streets wearing green and gold to help send them off in style.

A predetermined, limited allotment of tickets has been provided to BDHS and will be offered to the participants’ families first.  All remaining tickets will be sold to the public on Sunday, June 27 at Beaver Dam High School from 1-2pm.  Tickets are $11/person for all patrons over 2 years old.  There will not be tickets available for purchase onsite at the tournament.

Pregame coverage begins at 7:40am with the first pitch at 8am on 1430 WBEV.    The audio will also stream at DailyDodge.com.
