Beaver Dam Schools Lift Mask Mandate For Elementary Schools

(Beaver Dam) The mask requirement for elementary students in Beaver Dam public schools has been lifted. The school board Monday night made that decision with two dissenting votes.

Superintendent Mark DiStefano told the board that there was not a spike in cases following the lifting of the mandate two months ago at the middle and high school levels.

Board member Marge Jorgensen suggested the mandate be lifted after the winter break because of issues that arose with the immediate lifting at the October meeting.

Board member John Kraus Jr stuck to his initial motion to immediately lift the requirement at the elementary level.

While masks districtwide are now optional, the motion indicates they are highly recommended.
