Beaver Dam School District Offering Free Meal Distributions

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam School District has announced a series of dates where they will be providing food to the community. In partnership with the district’s food service provider, Taher Inc., they will distribute free meals to any person 18 years or younger and persons 19 or older with a physical or mental disability while schools are closed. The meal distributions will take place at the Beaver Dam High School student parking lot from 4pm to 6pm between March 30th and April 23rd. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has added additional protocol and guidance for schools to protect volunteers, food service providers and the public. When arriving at the high school, people are asked to pull up to the service table on the driver’s side, communicate how many children they are picking up meals for while remaining in their vehicles. The individual will then grab the number of plastic bags off the table that they need per child. One bag contains enough food and drink for one child. School officials ask the public to drive slowly in these area and adds that this is a “No Contact Pick Up” as advised by the state DPI. They say it is their goal to ensure the safety of all employees and volunteers with as little person-to-person contact as possible. Parents with children that have allergies are reminded that some meals may contain peanuts or gluten. Those who are unable to drive can walk to the pickup site but are asked to keep six feet from other people and to leave the area once they have received their meal bag.
