Beaver Dam School Board Approves Land Purchase

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam School Board recently approved a land purchase in special session. The price is roughly $13,000 per acre with a total cost of $770,000. The 58 acres is located north of Highway 151 and east of County Highway G/ South Spring Street and connected to a subdivision with residential access via Lombardi Lane and also Cemetery Lane.

The district’s Director of Business Services Anne-Marie Malkovich says the district is currently maximizing its available land for student and community use. She says the district is already using all of the land that they own but if the district did decide to move forward with a project in the future there was not land available for new construction.

District officials have not indicated their specific intentions for the property. Malkovich says it could serve as a future site if and when the board decides that there is a need for construction.

The land will be purchased using one-time money with cash on-hand from the general fund balance and will not have an impact on future needs related to student learning or staff compensation. Until a use for the land is realized, it would remain in agricultural production generating revenue for the district.
