(Beaver Dam) The city of Beaver Dam will receive a half-million dollars in grant funds for road repairs following action by the common council Monday night. The Community Development Block Grant funds will be directed to five road projects. The property owners who live on the streets being reconstructed would not be assessed for roadwork costs.
In addition, Art Bahr with MSA Professional Services says the city is targeting another round of grant funds this spring. The projects identified include this year’s upgrade of West Street from Third Street to Oneida Street along with next year’s planned reconstruction of Beaver Street from Front Street to West Maple; Front Street from West Street to Madison Street; and Haskell Street from West Street to Madison Street.
Those projects carry a price tag of $2.25-million dollars. A fifth street identified for rehab is West Maple, which is not currently on the city’s five year streets plan. When the final tally is made, and if the city is able to secure that additional one-million dollars in grant funding, then over half of the project would be covered by grant dollars.
