Beaver Dam Officials Approve Local Brewery’s Plan To Allow For Consumption Of Alcohol In Ice Shanties

(Beaver Dam) The city of Beaver Dam this week approved a plan by a local brewery to allow for alcohol to be consumed in ice shanties in a parking lot across the street from the establishment. The pandemic has forced local business operators to think outside the box in safely serving customers. Jim and Ruth Metz – owners of Ooga Brewing on South Spring Street – received state approval for their plan to install a couple shanties in a parking lot they lease. Licensed brewers are looked at differently under statute with most regulation from the state. However, the city would have to decide if alcohol could be transported across a street. Because the shanties are across the street from the bar, there were concerns about transporting alcohol containers. The owners of the brewery agreed that all containers would be sealed and there would be signage explaining that open containers cannot be taken out of the shanties.
