Beaver Dam Now Has 17 Wards

(Beaver Dam) There are now 17 wards in the city of Beaver Dam. The common council this week approved the annexation of 43 acres off South Center Road in the Town of Beaver Dam near the Apple Valley subdivision. The land will be used by the Department of Public Works for composting. There are no residents in the new ward. City officials indicated that it is easier to create an empty ward than it is to redraw existing voting districts within a municipality to accommodate a newly-acquired parcel. The new 17th Ward is one of three in the city created under similar circumstances over the past several years. It is anticipated that such wards would be absorbed into other wards containing actual city residents during annual redistricting which is currently underway.
