Beaver Dam Municipal Judge Not Seeking Re-Election

(Beaver Dam) Beaver Dam will have a new municipal judge next year. Judge Kenneth Peters is retiring when his term ends on April 30th of 2023. He was first elected to the bench in 2007.

The multi-jurisdictional court handles municipal matters or traffic infractions for the city and town of Beaver Dam, the city of Mayville, city of Waupun, and the joint police department of Neosho, Rubicon, and Ashippun. Dodge County Clerk Karen Gibson says those interested in running for the seat should file candidacy papers with her office.

“As long as they’re over 18-years-old…live in one of those communities and not a convicted felon kind of like any office that is elected,” says Gibson.

“They will need to file a statement of economic interest, that’s always a part of this judge race which is another form that goes to the Wisconsin Ethics Commission. But they do then submit the rest of the paperwork to me. They need between 20 and 100 signatures.”

The deadline to gather signatures as well as fill out and submit the paperwork to the county clerk’s office is January 3rd. Gibson says if there are no candidates on the April ballot, the seat could be filled by write-in vote.
