Beaver Dam Middle School Receives STEM Funding

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Middle School has been awarded STEM funding through the National Lieutenant Governor’s Association. The school is receiving $500 to support science, technology, engineering, and math programming this year. The money was made available through the Lt. Governor’s STEM Scholarship Program as part of a national call for applications for funding STEM programming.

The money Beaver Dam is getting will support extension activities for the Coding Club. Students will have the opportunity to participate in lessons that apply coding to high-interest areas, such as building codable robots and drones as well as coding through music.

Beaver Dam School District Superintendent Mark DiStefano says being selected for the grant is an “awesome” opportunity.

“The Lieutenant Governor’s Office was distributing grants and they saw that we have a lot of wonderful things going on at Beaver Dam Middle School,” says DiStefano. “This is an opportunity to help bolster the current programming and the STEM education efforts that our teachers are making and our students are engaged in. So, really excited about it and plan to use those funds to help further the experiences for our kids.”

The application period for the STEM Scholarship Program opened in May 2023. It was a competitive process that saw 150 funding requests from schools in 19 states. Just 12 schools in 12 states were awarded anywhere between $500-to-$1,000 for STEM-related expenses.
