Beaver Dam Mayor Talks Swan Park Splash Pad Project

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam mayor provided some insight behind the project to install a new splash pad at Swan Park. WDS Construction of Beaver Dam was recently awarded the contract at $1.54-million dollars to manage construction while Neuman Pools was selected as sub-contractor. Mayor Becky Glewen says their bid came in much lower than the other offers.

“We are thankful to have locals. Their bid was…almost $400,000 under the next bidder,” says Glewen. “And we are working with Waterplay as the vendor to do the splash pad features. One of the people that works primarily for Waterplay lives here in Beaver Dam and…has [a] big interest in Swan Park.”

Glewen says some of the features of the new splash pad could be “test-out” equipment to gauge public interest in them.

“So, they would find out what’s the interest and how many kids are interested in using those pieces of play,” says Glewen. “Depending on if they are real-popular they might put them in other places and parks.”

“But at least we would be a test center, that was something that would give us…reduced costs because sometimes things might change out so that there is new things for kids to experience.”

Glewen says pre-construction conferences took place at the beginning of this month with the goal of having the project completed by late spring or early summer. She notes that could change with supply chain issues and weather delays.

Interstate Sawing and Demolition of West Bend was paid $96,400 to demolish the old wading pool, which is where the splash pad will be located. This year was the final season that the pool was open.
