Beaver Dam Mayor Applauds Efforts Of City’s Forestry Supervisor

(Beaver Dam) Beaver Dam Mayor Becky Glewen is applauding the efforts of the city’s Forestry Supervisor following a recent recognition by the state. The Wisconsin Urban Forestry Council recognized John Neumann for his leadership in promoting and improving urban forestry. He was singled out for “Lifetime Achievement” at the 2021 Wisconsin Arborist Association and DNR Urban Forestry Conference. Glewen notes that for the past 27 years, Neumann has worked tirelessly to increase and diversify Beaver Dam’s tree canopy.

“He is always looking ahead and started the tree nursery in the city,” she says, “and that is unusual for a city to have their own nursey, giving us the ability to save money.

Also highlighted were Neumann’s outreach efforts and the establishment of a partnership with the local Walmart and Rotary Club to provide funding and volunteers for tree planting events, among other things

Glewen says trees are critically important to the success of a community. “They add value to property, the difference – aesthetically – that trees provide make a difference,” she says.

The city is planning a more formal recognition for Neumann once council meetings are held in-person again.
