8/9/17 – A Beaver Dam man was sentenced yesterday to four years in prison after pleading guilty to seventh offense Operating While Intoxicated. A Beaver Dam police officer was on the 100 block of Lakecrest Drive in May when he made contact with Rene Gomez after talking with a witness who said they saw a truck travel over a curb and into a sidewalk. Prosecutors say Gomez told the officer he was coming home from a convenience store when he went over a curb and hit a sign. He also said that he had drunk a 12-pack of Budweiser earlier in the evening. The 36-year-old initially refused a breathalyzer test but agreed to take one at Dodge County Jail resulting in a blood alcohol level of point-one-seven-one (.171). In addition to four years in prison, Gomez was also sentenced to five years of extended supervision and lost his license for three years.
