Beaver Dam Man Charged With Eighth OWI Offense

(Beaver Dam) Cash bond was set at $25,000 for a Beaver Dam man who made his initial appearance in court Monday on Eighth OWI Offense charges . On Sunday (October 25th), a Beaver Dam police officer spotted a vehicle turn off South University Avenue onto Stone Street driving in the wrong lane. The vehicle was pulled over and John Ludtke was reportedly identified as the driver. According to the criminal complaint, the officer noticed an order of intoxicants and that Ludtke had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Ludtke allegedly had difficulties maintaining his balance during field sobriety testing. A preliminary breath test reportedly returned a reading of point-two-three-five (.235). Due to Ludtke’s seven previous OWI convictions, he had a blood alcohol restriction of point-zero-two (.02). If convicted, the 55-year-old faces no more than 12-and-a-half years in prison. A judge will decide next month if there is enough evidence to order a trial.
