(Beaver Dam) A Beaver Dam man is slated to make an initial court appearance later this month on charges that he had inappropriate contact with a minor. Robert Lee Haley is facing a felony count of Sexual Assault of a Child Under 16. According to the criminal complaint, the 14-year-old first told authorities that she was at a park last November when Haley sat down next to her, grabbed her arm and threatened her family if she tried anything. Haley reportedly drove the victim to his apartment in Beaver Dam where he assaulted her. The victim later changed her story, saying that she voluntarily went to meet the 29-year-old to watch a movie together. She maintains that the assault did occur and was not consensual. Police were able to locate Haley through descriptions of his vehicle and apartment. When questioned, he said the girl told him she was 18-years-old and that any contact between them was consensual. He said that the two met on a dating app; the girl’s profile apparently indicated that she was 19-years-old. If convicted, Haley faces up to 40-years in prison. An initial appearance is scheduled for September 16.
