(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Lions Club is once again holding their Annual Fundraising Fruit Sale. Running from mid-October till November 15th. Those interested can order boxes containing 28 oranges, 22 Grapefruits, or gift boxes containing 10 oranges, six grapefruit, and eight Gala apples for $24 a box. Half boxes containing half the fruit can be ordered for $12. On WBEV’s Community Comment, Mark Barrette with the Beaver Dam Lions Club says fundraising efforts are really all about eyesight. Saying they recently finished doing vision screenings for Beaver Dam grade schools, Randolph, Randolph Christian, and various childcare centers, seeing roughly sixteen-hundred kids, and referring nearly 14-percent to optometrists.
In addition to their local impact, Barrette explains that their mission is a global one and outlined one such example involving screenings for the Afghan refugees currently housed in the Tomah Area. He says the vision screening process for the refugees at Fort McCoy will happen in two phases in November and December at four days each. In addition to vision screenings, Barrette says the Beaver Dam Lions Club supports the local community via high school scholarships, donating to Church Health Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Pave, Dodge County Food Pantry, the Beaver Dam Area Orchestra, providing crossing guard supplies for Beaver Dam, Clothes for Kids, New Beginnings Homeless Shelter, and the Wisconsin Lions Youth Camp.
