The Beaver Dam High School football team is primed and ready to begin their season on Monday. After seeing their traditional fall season postponed because of the pandemic head coach Brock Linde told DailyDodge.com that he was impressed with the commitment of his players preparation for the spring.
“We’re just really excited to get going. We had a really nice offseason with a lot of great committed kids.” Coach Linde said. “The parents, coaching staff and I think the community is ready for it (the season). It doesn’t matter to us when it’s going to happen. As long as it happens our kids are ready to go.”
Coach Linde says that he’s happy that the winter sports were able to play, giving the kids a chance to compete and those kids that were not in winter sports, worked hard in the weight room and to improve their conditioning.
With snow still out on Derleth Field, the team has been able to utilize the BDHS Fieldhouse to run contact days and open gyms. He anticipates the first week of practice to be run indoors and if Mother Nature doesn’t completely melt away the snow, they may call for the community to help clear the field over spring break. When they do begin practice Linde says they will split up on grade level and position groups as well as keeping the varsity and JV teams separated to prevent potential contamination.
Linde says that with the size of the fieldhouse they can basically run a full practice, besides the kick game and special teams indoors. He says it is important for his team to get outside to get into outdoor football shape, but he feels good about what they can get done inside.
When it comes to actual football, Linde says that he’s happy with the commitment of the team over the past few months and he has a good feel for how his team is shaping up. He expects to have around 90 players in the program in grades nine through twelve, and despite some overlap in the schedule, the traditional spring sport athletes are still committed to playing football.
Right now, the Golden Beavers have a five games schedule for the spring, with the opener set for Saturday, March 27th against Janesville Parker at DeForest High School. They currently have an open date on April 9th and are actively looking for a game to fill that void.
You will be able to watch all the Golden Beaver football games on the DailyDodge.com Videostream presented by the Beaver Dam Unified School District and Columbus Family Dental.
