The Beaver Dam High School girls hockey team advanced to the Sectional Final with a 4-2 win over the Metro Lynx Tuesday night at the Family Center in Beaver Dam.
The Golden Beavers struck early in the first period as freshman Macy Damon lit the lamp from the blue line at the 2:11 mark. Emersen Damon and Addie Hoekstra earned assists.
Senior defenseman Audrey Lont scored her first goal of the season at 9:03 of the second period to give BDHS a 2-0 lead. Emersen Damon picked up her second assist of the night on the play.
The Metro Lynx answered when Coraline Haley cleaned up a loose puck in front of the net to cut the Golden Beavers’ lead to 2-1 at 11:11. Willa Lenaker and Mary Nagle were credited with assists.
Beaver Dam regained a two-goal cushion before the second intermission. Olivia Bates found Emersen Damon at center ice during a Lynx line change, and Damon finished high on the blocker side to extend the lead to 3-1 at 16:21.
In the third period, the Metro Lynx pulled within one when Willa Lenaker picked up a loose puck and scored five-hole at 7:05 to make it 3-2.
Brenna Rhodes sealed the win at 16:43, finding the back of the net from the mid-slot. Lil Mansueto recorded the assist.
Arianna Wallace made 15 saves to earn the win in goal for Beaver Dam, while Addy Buzzell stopped 29 shots for the Metro Lynx (8-15). Beaver Dam (18-6-1) will face Cap City (18-6-1) in the Sectional Final on Friday night at the Family Center, with a trip to state on the line. The Cougars advanced with a 6-0 win over Badger Lightning in their semifinal.
The Golden Beavers and Cougars split their regular season meetings, each winning on the other’s home ice. The matchup is also a rematch of last year’s Sectional Final, which was won by Cap City.
