The three-time defending WIAA Division two state champion Beaver Dam girls basketball team’s 85 game in-state win streak came to an end on Saturday as Aquinas downed the Beavers 53-36 at Just A Game Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells. The two-time defending Division 4 state champion Blugolds used a 20-3 run over the final 11 minutes of the 1st half to turn a 9-9 tie game into a 29-12 lead at the break. The run included a scoring drought for the Golden Beavers that lasted over nine minutes. Beaver Dam was never able to get back into the game in the 2nd half. Maty Wilke was the only Beaver Dam player to finish in double figures with 15. Iowa State recruit Lexi Donarski led the Blugolds with a game high 23 points. The 36 points scored was the lowest point total by the Beaver Dam girls since a 44-33 defeat at New Berlin Eisenhower on January 3rd, 2014. The Beavers drop to 13-3 on the year while Aquinas improves to 15-1
The loss ends a historic 85 game in state run that last over 1400 days and spanned three and a half seasons. BD’s last loss to an Wisconsin opponent was on March 5th, 2016 when they fell to Green Bay Notre Dame 65-61 in OT at Neenah in the Sectional Final.
Beaver Dam looks to start a new streak on Tuesday night when they travel to Baraboo for a Badger North matchup with the Thunderbirds. BD beat Baraboo 85-27 back on December 10th at the Beaver Dam High School Fieldhouse. You can hear that game on 1430 WBEV.
