Beaver Dam Girls Basketball Team Looking To Repeat

The Beaver Dam girls’ basketball team has officially begun their title defense with a 92-23 victory over Fort Atkinson last Friday. There are high expectations surrounding a team that finished the 2016-17 campaign a perfect 28-0 and knocked off Cudahy to win the WIAA Division 2 State Championship.   Head coach Tim Chase told us that they are excited to defend their state title and that winning brought a sense of maturity to his squad. Chase says the focus now is on getting better and finding areas to improve. The team will have to replace stars Kara Crowley and all-time scoring and steals leader Cassidy Trotter who both graduated last year. However, aiding the Golden Beavers chance to repeat are 11 returning letterwinners including standouts Tara Stauffacher who averaged 11 points last year, point guard Paige Schumann, Senior Maryn Ferron, and Senior Afton Bartol. Adding to the challenges of repeating, Beaver Dam will be playing in a new conference this year. After years of playing out of the Wisconsin Little Ten all Golden Beavers athletics were placed in the Badger North. Chase says teams such as Waunakee, DeForest, Baraboo, and Reedsburg will provide challenges for his team and that it will be a feeling out process to start the year.
