Beaver Dam Creating TIF #9 Around Shuttered Lakeview Hospital

(Beaver Dam) The city of Beaver Dam is looking at creating another Tax Increment Finance District. TIF #9 would be targeting blight elimination and redevelopment of the area around the shuttered Lakeview Hospital. MSA Professional Services was hired Monday night for $12-thousand dollars to determine estimated project costs, economic feasibility, financing and the boundaries. City officials have not stated publicly what parcels would be part of the TIF. There have been several meetings in closed session to discuss the purchase and development of the hospital property, but no action has been taken as of yet. Mayor Becky Glewen says the city has been in conversation with the current owner of the old hospital – which is the Beaver Dam Community Hospital – to discuss the possibilities for the property. She confirms that the option of forming a TIF was discussed in closed session meetings. Glewen says the primary goal will be to remove blight, which has been a problem in that area for some time. She says there is a significant cost to demolish the structure and the city “absolutely wants to find a way to recover those costs.” The mayor says they will make sure they have a “good deal in place with someone that could use that property to make sure that we replace the taxes that were used to remove the building in the first place.”
