Beaver Dam Council Accepts Donation Of A Downtown Building

(Beaver Dam) A downtown building has been donated to the city of Beaver Dam. The common council accepted the donation of the property at 225 Front Steet from Wells Fargo Bank at their most recent meeting.

The owner of the property passed away and the bank held two unsuccessful auctions before offering it to the city. Mayor Becky Glewen indicated that there has been interest from a local contractor in refurbishing the dilapidated but historic structure. Glewen says the city would also seek Requests for Proposals in the event there were other interested parties.

For tax reasons, the bank would not be able to sell directly to a contractor so the city will be acting as an intermediary. The city attorney says that an agreement will be drawn up to shield Beaver Dam from any potential liability.
