(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Fire Chief says new communications equipment for their dive team is a game changer. The common council recently accepted a $10-thousand dollar donation from Jahnke’s Piggly Wiggly to cover the entire cost for a new communications system. Chief Michael Wesle says the department has never had a communications system for divers in the water to communicate with the surface or each other.
“Imagine diving into the ‘crystal clear’ waters of Beaver Dam Lake,” Wesle quipped, “you can’t see anything, you can’t see anyone else and you can’t talk to anyone who is on top of the water.”
Wesle says the donation will greatly enhance diver safety and the efficiency of operations.
“My son is on the dive team, I know the guys on the dive team, and they talk about this,” Juneau Piggly Wiggly owner Dan Jahnke says, “and I though this is a critical thing that we can help out with.”
The council also approved the acceptance of a $2000 donation to the Fire Prevention Program account from the Reed Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealership in Beaver Dam.
