Beaver Dam Cabin Fever Fest Returns Saturday

(Beaver Dam) An annual winter event returns to Beaver Dam Saturday. Cabin Fever Fest is being held throughout the downtown and city parks including Crystal Lake and Tahoe, highlighting local amenities like sledding and winter disc golf along with outdoor games and bonfires.

Recreation Supervisor Joan Hohenstein is with the Beaver Dam Community Activities and Services Department. She says there will be a penguin egg hunt at Crystal Lake Park.

“They will be hidden around the sledding hill and around the playground area,” says Hohenstein. “So, it’s going to be split into two sections so the littler kids don’t get trampled by the bigger kids. But 10:30 in the morning, meet at the beach and you will get instructions and then they will let you go find all the penguin eggs you can find.”

Hohenstein says the chili and soup cookoff is back and will be held at the Praise Assembly of God on 119 West Maple Avenue.

“You can bring your favorite chili or soup recipe to join the contest…you can bring it that day or they prefer that you contact them ahead of time,” says Hohenstein. “At 11am they will be judging and then the rest of the afternoon they will be selling the soup and chili. So, if you are out sledding and you need to warm up go over to Praise Assembly of God, get some soup for $3-dollars a coup and all proceeds will benefit Church Health Services.”

Other activities include a build your own book nook at the library, cookie decorating, an indoor scavenger hunt, snowball toss, and a UW-Madison’s Wisconsin Singers concert at 7pm at the high school. The event is now in its 14th year.
