Beaver Dam Boys Fall 2-0 To #1 Ranked Notre Dame

The Beaver Dam boys hockey team’s magical run in the post-season came to an end on Friday night as they fell to Notre Dame Academy 2-0 at the Sectional Final in Fond du Lac.   The Golden Beavers (18-8-2) and Tritons went to the 1st intermission scoreless.   Notre Dame goalie Bo Buckley turned back all eleven shots he saw in the 1st period, while Beaver Dam’s Kirk Davis made 20 saves.

Notre Dame finally broke the tie at 12:42 of the 2nd when senior Riley Onell tucked the puck just under the crossbar to given ND the 1-0 lead.  Notre Dame outshot Beaver Dam 17-2 in the 2nd period.  Moving into the 3rd period, Davis continued to make one spectacular save after another keeping Beaver Dam in the game.   The Triton defense stood strong, never giving BD any serious scoring chances in the 3rb period.   Notre Dame added an insurance goal at 15:45 when Callan Budinger pounded home a rebound past Davis on the power play.

After the 1st period the Tritons outshot Beaver Dam 37-5.   Kirk Davis turned back 487 shots while Notre Dame goalie Bo Buckley made 16 saves to earn his 6th shutout of the season.

Notre Dame (24-1-1) will advance to the WIAA Division One State Semifinals next Friday at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.  For Beaver Dam, they reached the Sectional Final for the 1st time since 2005.
