Beaver Dam Boys Face #1 Ranked Notre Dame With Trip To State On The Line

The Beaver Dam boys hockey team (18-7-2) travel to Fond du Lac today for a WIAA Division One Sectional Final against Notre Dame Academy (23-1-1).    The Golden Beavers have won eight in a row heading into tonight’s matchup with the Tritons.  Beaver Dam advanced to the Sectional Final with a 2-1 win at Neenah on Tuesday night, while Notre Dame rolled by Bay Port 6-1.

Notre Dame Academy is the #1 ranked team in Division One according to WisconsinPrepHockey.net.   The are champions of the Fox River Classic Conference.  Senior defenseman Jacob Conrad (3G, 32A) is a finalist for the 2020 Wisconsin Hockey Coaches Association State Player of the Year Award.   Notre Dame’s only loss of the year came to Verona on December 28th.  They also tied Detroit Catholic Central 1-1 on February 7th in Trenton, Michigan.

The last time Beaver Dam played in a Sectional Final was in 2005 when they dropped a 5-1 decision to Fond du Lac.   Notre Dame dropped a 4-0 decision to eventual state runner-up Neenah in last year’s Sectional Final.

The winner of tonight’s game advances to the WIAA Division One State Tournament in Madison next week.  The Golden Beavers only appearance at state was in 2002 when they fell to Verona 10-2 in the quarterfinals.  Notre Dame has qualified for the WIAA State Hockey Tournament six times in the school’s history including a run of five straight from 2010 to 2014.  They also qualified for state in 2018.  They captured the 2012 state championship.
