The Beaver Dam High School football team dropped a 39-0 decision to Monroe in their 2022 season opener at HH Derleth Field on Friday night. Monroe’s three-headed rushing attach piled up 446 yards rushing as they outgained the Golden Beavers 490-127 on the night.
The Cheesemakers Alex Hernandez carried the ball 14 times for 206 yards and two TDs. Ben Gatdula added 110 yards on just eight carries and two touchdowns. Keatin Sweeney added a TD run of his own in an eight carry, 89 yard night for the defending Rock Valley Conference champs.
Camron Mendoza led BD with 42 yards rushing, Aiden Root chipped in 39 yards on the ground, while Bradyn Strachota ran for 38 yards.
“Monroe is an outstanding team.” Head Coach Brock Linde told 1430 ESPN Beaver Dam. ” We knew what we were up against. I wish we could have come out and fought a little be harder. We did some uncharacteristic things schematically. Execution I thought was poor at times on defense where guys were guys were doing things they were not coached to do. I think that’s breaking in some younger kids who have never played before and you’re going to get exploited pretty bad against a team that’s really good at what they do.”
Beaver Dam (0-1) travels to Baraboo next week in a game you can hear on 1430 ESPN Beaver Dam.
