BDUSD Elementary Students Will Continue To Wear Masks

(Beaver Dam) Elementary students in Beaver Dam public schools will continue to wear masks. The school board Monday night heard an update from Superintendent Mark DiStefano who indicated that while the county remains at a high-risk level, there has been no change in recommendations from public health officials. Two weeks ago, the school board lifted the mask requirement for middle and high school students, the only age groups then eligible for vaccinations. The school board’s Joann Tyjeski had previously supported lifting the mandate for all students. Last night, she indicated that it would make sense for the elementary mandate to stay in place for now. Tyjeski noted the matter should be revisited next month as the vaccinations become more widely available. School Board President John Kraus Jr, who also supported lifting the districtwide mandate last month, agreed with Tyjeski that the elementary mandate should stay in place until the youth vaccine is more widely available.
