BD’s Paige Yagodinski Named MIAC Defensive Player Of The Week

Beaver Dam High School alum and current St. Olaf women’s basketball player Paige Yagodinski (BDHS 2021) has been named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Here’s the press release from the conference.

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Sophomore Paige Yagodinski of the St. Olaf College women’s basketball team earned the first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Athlete of the Week accolade of her career on Monday afternoon.

The sophomore was selected as the MIAC Women’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week after recording 11 steals and helping the Oles limit their opponents to 52.0 points per game in back-to-back road wins last week. Yagodinski became St. Olaf’s fourth MIAC Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week this season and the team’s third MIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Yagodinski had 11 steals – including nine in one game – in St. Olaf’s two road victories to help the Oles secure their first berth in the six-team MIAC Playoffs since 2014. The sophomore had nine steals – the most by an Ole since at least 2005 and the most in a game in the MIAC this season – to help St. Olaf overcome a 34-14 halftime deficit and hold St. Kate’s to 12 second-half points in the clinching 58-46 victory on Saturday.

As the No. 6 seed, St. Olaf visits No. 3 seed Hamline University in the quarterfinals of the MIAC Playoffs on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. Any updates to the status of the game due to weather will be posted at athletics.stolaf.edu and on the @stolafathletics Twitter and Instagram accounts.
