Beaver Dam High School was well represented at the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-State Banquet this past weekend in Wisconsin Dells. Beaver Dam’s Maty Wilke and Natalie Jens were honored as All-State in Division Two for the girls while Golden Beaver Nate Abel gets D2 All-State Honors on the boys side.
Wilke, a University of Wisconsin recruit, was averaging 21.8 points per game when her senior season get cut short eight games into the year by a knee injury. Jens is heading to NCAA D2 Minnesota State-Moorhead after a stellar prep career which saw her 16.5ppg this past year for BDHS.
Abel, an NCAA Division II Michigan Tech signee averaged 26.4 points per game this season and became the program’s all-time single season and career scoring leader this past season.
Watertown senior Teya Maas was named Honorable Mention All-State in D1. In D3 Waupun’s Abbie Aalsma was a 1st team pick. Division Four, Marshall teammates Anna Lutz and Laura Nickel were 1st team selections. In D5, Randolph’s Jorey Buwalda was a 1st team all-state honoree.
On the boys side, Marshall senior Craig Ward was named to the WBCA Division Four All-State Team. The WBCA Division Five All-State Team has numerous area players recognized. Earning First Team All-State honors were Hustisford’s Dylan Kuehl, Rio’s Jacob Rowe and Randolph teammates Travis Alvin and Sam Grieger. Earning Honorable Mention All-State in D5 were Cambria-Friesland teammates Griffin Hart and Kobe Smit and Rio’s Pierson Schneider.
Hustisford boys basketball coach Otto Hopfinger was named Co-Boys Basketball Player of the Year, sharing the award with Racine St. Catherine’s Nick Bennett.
