(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Police Department is reminding motorists to keep an eye out for flashing red lights near train crossings. Lieutenant Jeremiah Johnson says this is made more important along Highway 151 where motorists are traveling at higher speeds.
He says while people head down the freeway they are not expecting to see the red lights start to flash but they need to be prepared. He adds when those lights start flashing you need to stop, and emphasizes doing so where the two R’s and a cross is painted into the roadway. Johnson says the flashing lights are equivalent to a normal red traffic light when a train is present.
Train safety and enforcement is a top priority for the Horicon Police Department. Over the next several months, their main focus will be on drivers who are trying to beat the trains at the several crossing throughout the city.
