BDPD Says COVID-19 Outbreak Could Result In Diminished Criminal Activity

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Police Department recently addressed if the COVID-19 pandemic has caused criminal activities to diminish. Sergeant Jeremiah Johnson says it is too early to tell but notes that they will have a better idea in a few months if certain unlawful acts, such as drunk driving, have been impacted. He says that once the figures come in, he suspects that there will be a decrease in the number of drunk driving arrests not only in Beaver Dam but across the whole state. During a recent appearance on WBEV’s Community Comment, Johnson said they have seen an increase in complaints for people and businesses violating the “Safer at Home” order. He says over the last week or so, the department has fielded around five or six calls from concerned citizens over violations of the governor’s order. Sheriffs and police chiefs throughout the state have routinely asked citizens to voluntarily comply with the “Safer at Home” order, adding that failure to do so puts others and the community at risk.
