BDPD Encourages Halloween Safety

(Beaver Dam) The Beaver Dam Police Department is encouraging Halloween safety in advance of this weekend’s trick or treating. Lieutenant Jeremiah Johnson has this advice.

“Take your kids trick or treating, go with them so you can just be with them,” says Johnson. “The more parents we have out on the street because you know sometimes scary stuff happens…we make every effort to make trick or treating safe for the city of Beaver Dam.”

Johnson says if parents are not able to go with their kids, he recommends having a safety talk before they go out trick or treating.

“Tell them ‘hey, stay on one side of the road, cross the street at the ends of the road by the crosswalks, look both ways before you cross the street,’” says Johnson. He also recommends sending kids off in a group so they are not by themselves the entire night.

During a recent appearance on Community Comment, Johnson noted that there will be additional law enforcement presence out during trick or treating hours.

“We will have extra patrols out. We have our auxiliary officers out there, we’ll have our full patrol staff out there as well,” says Johnson. “Just making our presence known out in the community. Making sure that kids are being safe. Making sure that they are interacting [well], where you don’t have issues.”

Beaver Dam’s trick or treating runs from 4pm to 6pm this Sunday. There will also be safe trick or treating at the Beaver Dam Fire Department this Saturday from 1pm to 3pm.
