The Beaver Dam High School wrestling team will be sending a pair of athletes to this Saturday’s Division One Sectional at Mukwonago.
At 126 junior Kyler Neuberger punched his ticket to Sectionals by winning the Regional Championship. Neuberger will face Nico Gonzales (13-4) of Pewaukee.
“Kyler is having a fantastic year. He’s undefeated.” Coach Tim Winker told Dailydodge.com. “Kyler’s got a good opportunity on Saturday. He’s got a couple of other kids in there who are about where he is. It’s going to be exciting on Saturday to see which one of those kids come out in the top two. Certainly, Kyler has everyone opportunity on Saturday and we’re hoping he has the right stuff and puts it all together and punches his ticket to the state tournament up in Kaukauna.“
At 160 freshman Gabe Klatt (8-3) was runner up at the Regional and will face Jake Adams (9-1) of Mukwonago in his first round match. Klatt has a couple of the state’s best wrestlers in his bracket. Luke Mechler (7-0) of Stoughton knocked off Klatt in the Regional Final and finished 3rd at 152 at last year’s D1 State Meet. Also in the 160 bracket is Arrowhead’s Jack Ganos (13-0) who was 2nd at 145 at the 2020 D1 State Meet.
“Certainly, you would like to say (he could) knock off one of the top two kids in the state.” Winker said. “As a freshman that’s a tall order. Maybe he has a great match and knocks off one of those two guys. That would be a heck of a story.”
