The Beaver Dam High School Fieldhouse is being showcased this week as the WIAA State Girls Spring Volleyball Tournament plays the Sectional and State Level. Beaver Dam hosted a WIAA Division One Sectional on Tuesday night and will host the Division Two State Semifinals on Thursday.
Beaver Dam and Kettle Moraine were both awarded the State Semifinals because of their quality of venue and their ability to host socially distanced fans. With the size of the BDHS Fieldhouse they were able to set up the courts exactly like it would have been at the Resch Center in Green Bay with two courts side by side. After the semifinals they cleared the venue and set up one main court for the championship.
Gehring told DailyDodge.com that the reaction from spectators and participants at Tuesday’s night’s D1 Sectional which included Sun Prairie, Eau Claire Memorial, DeForest and Holeman was nothing but positive.
“Its one of may favorite things to do is to stand by the gate and listen to people who have never been in there before. They will walk in and the #1 comment I hear is this place is beautiful.” Gehring said. “And I think we should be proud of that.”
The State Semifinals will be fully staffed by BDHS Staff. Gehring hopes that these events will help draw more WIAA events to the city. She says that fans and participants on Tuesday and again for Thursday have asked about local business and hotels they can patronize while visiting for the event.
The D2 State semfinals will feature #2 Washburn vs #3 St. Mary’s Springs at 4:15pm, then at 7pm #1 Broadhead faces off with #4 Royal.
The Division One Semifinals are at Kettle Moraine High School. Both the D1 and D2 State Championship matches are set for Saturday in Kaukauna.
