BDHS Girls Hockey Drops Opener

The Beaver Dam High School girls hockey team drop their season opener to the Badger Lightning 1-0 on Friday afternoon in Baraboo. Emily Smedema had 35 saves for the Golden Beavers.  Beaver Dam then played two a 2-2 tie in game #2 against the JV.  Addy Damon and Ali Stanul scored for BD with Smedema making 26 saves.  The Golden Beavers host Rock County next Friday in their home opener.

“This was a very good effort for us in our first game of the season – with a very young team.   It is a reflection of having several experienced players coming into the high school program from the Wildfire youth program – something we’ve been pointing to for some time.  The coaching staff has been encouraged by what we’ve seen in practice thus far, and this first game did not disappoint.  We have much to work on, but we have a base of playing experience now that we have not had for several years.  Emily was rock solid in net; and we had solid play from a host of players.  We had several good scoring chances; this was very close to being a 2-1 victory.” – Beaver Dam Co-Head Coach Paul Uttech
