The Beaver Dam High School girls golf team opened up play at the Brookfield Central/Menomonee Falls Invitational on Monday at the Wisconsin Country Club in Milwaukee. On Tuesday the event shifts to Wanaki Golf Course.
“As a team we are currently in 22nd place (after day one) at +137. Defending State Champion DSHA is leading at +36. BDHS sophomore McKenna Nelson is tied for first with an even par 72 along with Emma Cunningham of Green Bay Preble and Brookfield East’s Paryton Haugen. McKenna started on #7 and was 3 over after hole 10. After birdies on hole 14,15 and 17 she was back to even. She bogeyed 18 but birdied #5 to get back to even. It was an impressive comeback for McKenna today on a course that she had never played before. She stuck to her plan and started her sophomore year with a solid first day. Sophomore Mia Nortman had a personal best 108 today. Mia has improved so much in her second year. She is going to continue to get better each and every day. She has put some solid time this past summer and looks like a player that is going to be really good. Senior Lillianne Fister was at 121. This is her second season and I know she has the ability to improve a lot. She just started playing competitively last year and is going to have some good days for us this year. Sophomore Kamryn Albert shot 124. Kamryn had 2 pars today which shows what she is capable of. She just needs some more experience, and her scores are going to improve a lot. Sophomore Claire Karus shot 142. Claire is hitting a lot of good shots. She just needs to get comfortable in competition. There is a difference and the more she gets used to it the better she is going to get. Senior Jennifer Bennett will play for us a lot this year. Jennifer has been a solid player for our program the last 3 years and will be playing a lot for us this year. She has a good golf game and our team needs her to have her best year this year. Sophomore Avery Duax and Freshman Ellie Klug are new this year, but they are athletic and showing a lot of promise this year. We are so excited to have these 2 new players in our program.” – Coach Tim Chase
