BDHS Girls Golf Ready To Tee Up The Season

Its not a normal golf season but the Beaver Dam High School girls golf teams is looking to have some fun and get better.  BDHS girls golf coach Tim Chase says he’s happy the season was given the green light and his kids have the opportunity to get out with their friends and have some normalcy on the course.  There are fourteen girls on the roster this season as Beaver Dam begins their 2nd year in a co-op with Wayland Academy.

Chase says that many of the girls on his team are multi-sports athletes who have taken up the game as a so-called ”2nd sport.”  He says as they play more golf, and as they continue to learn and be more consistent, they can take the next step with their game. Chase adds that one of the great things about golf is that it’s a team sports but can also practice a lot on your own time to become a better player.  He says this year’s team is a good bunch of kids and it’s going to be a fun group.

At this point coach Chase says that the team plans on just playing dual meets against one other school.  He says if things start to open up a bit more later in the fall, they may decide to enter a multi-team invite.  If they do decide to enter a bigger event, they might play sending a full varsity teams out in five-somes in order to socially distance from other teams.

With many schools in the Badger Conference shifting their fall sports to the spring their will not be a league season.   Coach Chase doesn’t think that will be much of an issue this year because the nice thing about golf is that you are always competing against yourself, whether it be how many pars can you get, can you improve your score from last week, etc.  The WIAA stated at their Board of Control meeting earlier this month they will do their best to try and schedule some sort of postseason event if it can be done safely.

If there are any girls that attend Beaver Dam High School or Wayland Academy that are not out for a fall sport, coach Chase says they are still welcome to join the girls golf team.

The BDHS girls golf team opens up their season on Monday, August 24th, when they host Reedsburg at Old Hickory.
