BDHS Football Team Hosts Fort Atkinson For Homecoming On DailyDodge.com

The Beaver Dam football team welcomes Fort Atkinson to HH Derleth Field tonight for Homecoming.  Yes, that’s right, it’s Homecoming in April!

“Homecoming is just a little icing on the cake to end our home season.” Coach Brock Linde told DailyDodge.com.  “We had talked about it when we got bumped in the fall, just hoping that things looked pretty good from a COVID outlook. (We hoped) That maybe we could get more kids in to watch the game, and things have been pretty clean, knock on wood. It became more of a serious conversation into the winter months.  What can we do to celebrate our school, to celebrate our community and give kids a feeling of belongingness and we decided to pull the trigger and call this Homecoming.”

There was no actual Homecoming parade or big dance, but the school did have a theme and dress up days.  They also will have a jumbo movie screen placed on the football field on Saturday night and show a movie for the student body.

The Golden Beavers (1-3) look to get back on the winning track tonight after dropping their last two contests, including a 26-19 decision to Mount Horeb/Barneveld last Friday night at Derleth Field.   Junior running back Jaden Barstow ran for a 49 yard touchdown in last week’s game while QB Carter Riesen ran for a score and threw a touchdown pass to Wes Biel.

Fort Atkinson (1-1) returns to the gridiron after taking the last two weeks off for COVID-19 related issues. Fort Atkinson won their opener against Milton 20-7 on March 27th before dropping a game at Waunakee 57-0 on April 1st.   Junior running back Alec Courtier has carried the ball 32 times for 151 yards and a touchdown in two games this season.  Nick Nelson took over the program last offseason as head coach.

Along with Homecoming, tonight is also Senior Night and Parents Night.  They will honor the nine senior players of the BDHS senior class.  The school will also take the time to recognize the Fort Atkinson seniors who were not able to have a senor night of their own this season.

You can watch tonight’s game on the DailyDodge.com Videostream presented by Columbus Family Dental, Grande Cheese and the Beaver Dam Unified School District.  The game will also be broadcast on 1430 WBEV.  Pregame coverage begins at 6:40pm with the kickoff set for 7pm.
