The Beaver Dam High School football team returns to the gridiron tonight as they travel to Greenfield to face Whitnall at 7pm. Beaver Dam originally had a bye this week, but when Whitnall’s game with Cudahy was cancelled the teams got together and agreed to play.
Beaver Dam (1-1) will look to make it two wins in a row after last Saturday night’s thrilling 26-18 win over Monona Grove at DeForest. Senior quarterback Carter Riesen has throw fore 344 yards this season and three touchdowns. He’s also run for a score. Senior running back Wesley Biel has carried it 34 times for 114 yards and a TD. Junior receiver Alex Soto has caught 18 balls for 161 yards and two scores, while senior Nate Abel has grabbed 10 passes for 142 yards and 1 TD.
Senior Conner Strasser leads the state with five fumble recoveries this spring, including four in last week’s win over Monona Grove. That effort earned him a nomination for the Wissports.net Week 2 Spring High School Player of the Week.
Whitnall (2-0) enters tonight with victories this spring over West Allis Hale (28-19) and South Milwaukee (44-7). QB Caleb Straughter has thrown for 166 yards and a TD this season and has also rushed for 61 yards and 3 scores. Dominic Greer and Ryan Dorow have each rushed for over 100 yards through two games. Greer has a pair of TDs and Dorow has hit paydirt once. 2019 Honorable Mention All-Woodland wide receiver Chase Kujawa has caught five passes for 131 yards and a TD. Whitnall won the 2019 Woodland East Conference and were picked 5th by Travis Wilson of Wissports.net in the re-tooled Woodland Conference this past fall.
